CNN Hero: Anuradha Koirala
Emily Product Information, Survivor Stories, Trafficking News & Information 2
Check out this great article on CNN.com about Anuradha Koirala, a woman who’s made it her life’s mission to support survivors of sex trafficking in Nepal. According to the U.S. State Department, some 10,000 to 15,000 women and girls from Nepal are trafficked to India and then sexually exploited each year. You can help support survivors of trafficking in Nepal by purchasing the adorable felt purses in our Kid’s collection – made in Nepal. Also, many women employed by Freeset in Calcutta, were also trafficked from Nepal. Check out their fabulous products, too.

The Value of Microloans – Part 2
Emily Books & Resources 1
Just two days ago, I received an update on Alice, the lady my brother and sister-in-law and I made a small loan to two years ago. This was our first update and it made my entire month. “A Great Story of Success,” it began, then went on to share that Alice has faithfully paid back the loan in weekly installments “without pushing” and has started her own tailoring business. She has taken additional loans to expand the business and now employs two other women! Here’s a picture of her hard at work. “You can change one person’s world, and it’sRead more

Terrify No More – Pt. 2
Emily Books & Resources, Survivor Stories 0
I have already posted a few quotes and thoughts from reading Terrify No More. Well, I’ve finally finished the book and I have a few more quotes I’d like to touch on. I find there are two common reactions that someone has after learning about human trafficking. One is to be overwhelmed by the enormity of the problem and feel that nothing can be done. The other is to ask, “Where is God in this situation?” There are two quotes from the book which I think address these well. The first is from Sharon Cohn of IJM: While there areRead more

The Value of Microloans
Emily Books & Resources 1
One of the main causes of human trafficking is extreme poverty. When people have no economic resources they are easily exploited and lured into risky situations that they might not otherwise need to consider. If they are poor and desperately need to buy food for their family they are more likely to accept any offer of a job without thinking through all the possibilities. One way we can help to end human trafficking is through economic empowerment, especially of women. One great way to do that is through micro-finance. The post below is written by a guest blogger, Jennifer Taylor,Read more
