Fair Trade Focus: Halloween Candy

I’m already brainstorming my Halloween costume, and my guess is that you’ll spend more time thinking about what you’ll wear than what candy you’ll hand out. If you’re like me, you’ll make a last minute run out to the store to find something before the trick-or-treaters get to your door. This year, though, do something different! We’ve written a lot on our blog about slavery in the chocolate industry so this time of year is a great time to make a change and be sure that your Halloween ritual doesn’t thrive on slavery.

There are several great places to get fair trade treats:

  • Ethical Ocean has a great selection of fair trade, individually wrapped chocolates and other sweets.
  • Equal Exchange has a kit for “Reverse Trick or Treating.” It’s a great way to tell others about fair trade chocolate, or you can simply pass it out to those who come to your door.
  • Sweet Earth Chocolates also has some fancier, Halloween-themed chocolates, among all of their other heavenly, fair-trade chocolates.

She’d been becoming more and more involved in the abolitionist movement, and she decided to start STF as an opportunity to bring together the best of all products made by survivors of trafficking.
