2011
Of course, Stop Traffick Fashion has lots of great gifts that bring true joy to Christmas. But we also know that our products don’t fit all of your needs and sometimes you need a gift for that person who has everything. In that situation I always recommend making a donation to an excellent organization in their name, and Hagar International would be an excellent choice!
Christmas is defined by light. Trees sparkle, candles glow, and stars glisten as a reminder of God’s light of the world.
But in Cambodia, Afghanistan and Vietnam, there are thousands of women and children who won’t see light this Christmas. Abused, trafficked, and rejected by society, they are living in a world of darkness.
In 2011, Hagar helped nearly 1,000 women and children move out of darkness. One of them is a 22 year-old Cambodian woman, named Malis.*
Last year, Malis’ light was nearly extinguished. She was sold by her family for $500. She was abused physically, emotionally, sexually. Malis’ light was broken and fading, and she saw no hope for the future. However, when she came to Hagar, staff saw a glimmer of light in her tenaciousness. She had a will to live. They cared for her, loved her, and counseled her. They taught her job skills.
Once fully healed, Malis will begin a career in cosmetology. She will be able to support herself and re-integrate into society. (read Malis’ full story here).
During this season of light, please consider making a year-end gift to help Hagar expand support to more women and children. This Christmas, a gift of $150 can help us provide a month’s worth of shelter and counseling to one woman in darkness, like Malis.
With your help, we can step forward knowing that light is indeed stronger than darkness.
