Lusso Bags was founded by Nicole to help empower women in Kolkata, India. Their Mrs. Bird Shoe & Accessory Bag is a personal favorite of mine and the perfect gift or travel accessory.

The Lusso Report is their blog featuring stories and tips for travel, fashion and socially conscious living. Today they featured an interview with me – thanks guys! Check it out to see some of my favorite things and learn more about STF. Here are a few of their questions and my answers.

Q: Why do you care about human trafficking issues?

A: I don’t see how someone can hear about human trafficking, not be appalled and have their hearts go out to the victims. They are all just like us, created in the image of God with a right to freedom. As a fellow human I care about them, but that pull is even stronger because I know God cares about them and their life.

Q: What has been your greatest measure or feeling of success?

A: It’s pretty exciting when people learn about trafficking because of seeing us at an event or coming across our website. One more organization out there spreading the word that this exists is worth it. It’s even better when they are moved by the story and inspired to act, even by doing something as simple as buying a bag or a necklace. But the most satisfaction comes when people begin to change the rest of their lives, becoming everyday abolitionists and looking for more and more ways to make a difference – including changing their shopping habits.

Q: What book or resource do you most recommend to others wanting to educate themselves about human trafficking?

A: Disposable People by Kevin Bales is a great, informative book on the subject. Two other good books are Not for Sale and The Good News About Injustice.

About

Emily founded Stop Traffick Fashion in 2009. She’d been becoming more and more involved in the abolitionist movement, and she decided to start STF as an opportunity to bring together the best of all products made by survivors of trafficking. She hopes her response to trafficking will inspire others to take action, even in a small way. Emily lives in Cincinnati, enjoys traveling, and has visited Hagar International and StopStart in Cambodia.
