Melissa Everyday Abolitionist, Trafficking News & Information 0
The US Department of State has issued the 2011 Trafficking in Person’s Report. We talked about the report some last year. Here’s the report’s purpose, in a nutshell. The Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report is the U.S. Government’s principal diplomatic tool to engage foreign governments on human trafficking. It is also the world’s most comprehensive resource of governmental anti-human trafficking efforts and reflects the U.S. Government’s commitment to global leadership on this key human rights and law enforcement issue. Melissa Everyday Abolitionist, Survivor Stories, Trafficking News & Information 0

What stricks me is that Anuradha began a small endeavor rooted in her own experience—and it blossomed into a place of comfort for hundreds of women and children. We all have talents and interests. Our small choices can blossom into big change just like hers did.

Many farm workers aren’t paid well. For instance, “workers earn around 45 cents for each 32 pound bucket of tomatoes they pick. That’s just 1.4 cents per pound of tomatoes, and the price hasn’t changed in nearly 30 years.” (Info found here.) These workers are at risk because they’re often impoverished immigrants and minorities, with language and cultural barriers to boot.Read more

Trafficking in the News
Melissa Books & Resources, Everyday Abolitionist, Survivor Stories, Trafficking News & Information 0
I have Google alert set up for “human trafficking” and “sex trafficking,” and every week there seem to be more articles online about those topics. That’s great news because it means that trafficking is finally getting the attention and press coverage needed to find a solution. Here are a few highlights. Read Ashton and Demi’s response to the controversy spawned by their Real Men Don’t Buy Girls campaign. Learn more about sex trafficking and how GEMS is helping to “empower girls and young women, ages 12-21, who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking to exit the commercial sexRead more
