• In 2005, the Department of Labor promised to release a list of products that are produced using slaves. Four years later, and still no list. Mark P. Lagon, Executive Director of Polaris Project, gives his take on the situation here. What good would a list do? It would give consumers a very valuable tool to research their purchases and target feedback to companies and industries whose practices are grossly unethical. • Congress recently asked Criagslist to make meaningful changes as it morphed its Erotic Services section into a new, and presumably fully legal and traffick-free, Adult Services section. So far it seems the changes are skin deep, barely hiding the illegal activities that are advertised. Go here to ask Craigslist to make changes that protect people and prohibit trafficking.

• And finally, some good news already in progress: The Visayan Forum Foundation is using a grant from Microsoft Philippines to teach computer skills to workers rescued from trafficking. Building skills for economic stability is crucial to rehabilitating victims of trafficking: It keeps them from being vulnerable to re-trafficking and gives them the confidence to build a free, happy, healthy life for themselves.
