Everyday Abolitionist will be a recurring feature on the blog where we’ll hear firsthand from someone using their skills, talents, and opportunities to fight trafficking. Our first guest is artist Collin Rowland, who’s graciously invited us to sell products and raise awareness of trafficking at several of his events. His photo below is called “Captives Set Free.”

Captives Set Free by Collin Rowland

I first heard about human trafficking when my wife Shelli and I saw a documentary film at AMC Theater titled Call And Response. I was also moved to take this subject even more serious after seeing the popular film, Taken. Growing up, I had a few not so pleasant experiences where I was blamed for things that I was truly innocent of. Out of those situations I came to appreciate the need for justice and protection for the innocent.

In my profession as a fine art photographer, I look for opportunities to plant seeds of truth through the images I choose and the metaphors I hope to convey through them.

I believe it’s important that we do whatever we can to fight these injustices, continue to spread the word and partner with various organizations to help stop this despicable slavery.

If you are interested in getting involved in the fight against trafficking but don’t know where to start, I would encourage you to do your research just to see the gravity of this human epidemic. Organizations like Stop Traffick Fashion and International Justice Mission would be a couple of excellent places to begin.

Shine on,

Collin Rowland
